It was inevitable: the scent of bitter almonds always reminded him of the destiny of turbulent love affairs. Doctor Juvenal Urbino sensed it as soon as he entered the darkened house, arriving urgently to investigate a case that for him had ceased to be urgent many years ago. The Antillean refugee Jeremiah de Saint-Amour, disabled war veteran, photographer of children, and his most sympathetic adversary in chess, had escaped the torments of memory with a vapor of gold cyanide.

DeleteFue muy dificil traducir la frase "los amores contrariados." No lo entiendo completamente...
